Final Exam essay portion: Here are the Final Exam essay directions.

5/27 and 5/29 Learning goals: I will demonstrate comprehension of a novel. I will discuss key terms from the year. CW: 1. Finish discussing chapters 7 and 8. 2. Review for finals. HW: Study for final exam. Final essay due on My Access by May 30.

5/22  Learning goal: I will demonstrate comprehension of a novel. CW: 1. Discuss ch. 6. 2. Work on essay for final. 3. Watch portion of “I Am David.” HW: Read chapters 7 and 8 by May 28/29.

5/20  Learning goal: I will demonstrate comprehension of a novel. CW: 1. Discuss ch. 5. 2. Work on essay for final. 3. Watch portion of “I Am David.” HW: Read ch. 6 by May 22/23.

5/16  Learning goal: I will demonstrate comprehension of a novel. CW: “I Am David” chapters 1 to 4 exam HW: Read ch. 5 by May 20/21.

5/14  Learning goal: I will identify parts of the plot and use context clues to determine meanings of unknown words. No bellwork. CW: 1. Highlight/underline evidence to support character analysis essay for final. 2. Complete study guide and bring with you for test on Thursday. HW: *** Missing work due May 17. Complete study guide.

5/10 Learning goal: I will annotate the novel and look for textual evidence to support my essay. No Bellwork! CW: 1. Discuss character analysis essay for final. 2. Keep reading “I Am David”/discuss ch. 3. HW: *** Missing work due May 17. Read to page 111.

5/8 Learning goal: I will keep a double-entry journal and make inferences based on the text. BW5: What shocks/interests/amuses you about David’s reaction to things he learns in ch. 2? CW: 1. “I Am David” — ch. 2/3. 2. Turn in the work from the 3 stations or any missing work. 3. Quiz on ch. 2 HW: 1.Read to page 80

5/6 Learning goal: I will keep a double-entry journal and make inferences based on the text. BW4: What is the significance of the colors that David sees at the end of chapter 1? Explain. CW: 1. “I Am David” — ch. 2. 2. Turn in the work from the 3 stations or any missing work. HW: 1.Read to the end of ch. 2 2. Prepare for quiz on chapter 2 3. 6 double-entry journals for ch. 1 and 2.

5/2 Learning goal: I will keep a double-entry journal and make inferences based on the text. BW3: Why is David so mistrusting of people? Use evidence from the text. W: 1. Finish Chapter 1 of “I Am David.”  2. David’s World in Ruins” worksheet 3. Turn in the work from the 3 stations or any missing work. HW: Read chapter 2 up to page 49.

4/30 Learning goal: I will keep a double-entry journal. BW2: What’s more important? Freedom or your life? CW: 1. Read part of Chapter 1 of “I Am David.” 2. Learn about Joseph Stalin and the Gulags 3. Turn in the work from the 3 stations. HW: None

4/22-4/26 Learning goals: I will learn about the Holocaust. BW1: During the Holocaust, soldiers confiscated thousands of shoes from victims as well as any valuable possessions. How does seeing this pile of shoes make you feel? CW: 1. Rotate in groups to complete these three assignments: Holocaust activities HW: Bring “I Am David” on April 30.
